Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, who designed the Indian Constitution, was born on 14 April 1891 in a small village in Madhya Pradesh. Bhimrao Ambedkar's father's name was Ramji Maloji Sakpal and mother's name was Bhimabai.

Bhimrao Ambedkar was born in the Mahar caste, which was considered untouchable and extremely low class. In childhood, Bhimrao Ambedkar's family was deeply discriminated socially and economically.

Bhimrao Ambedkar's ancestors worked in the army of the British East India Company for a long time. His father was in the Mau Cantonment of the British Indian Army. For a long time, his family was ready to serve the British.

Student Life of Bhimrao :

Ambedkar remarried in 1919 and moved to Mumbai with the family. Bhimrao Ambedkar became the first untouchable student of Government High School on Elphinstone Road.

Even after his outstanding performance in studies, Bhimrao Ambedkar was saddened by the isolation and discrimination he had with himself. After passing the matriculation examination in 1907, Bhimrao Ambedkar joined the University of Mumbai and thus became the first Dalit to take admission in an Indian college.

Passing the matriculation examination was considered to be a great success at that time and passing an untouchable matriculation examination was amazing at that time. And hence this success triggered a wave of happiness in the whole society.

After passing the matriculation examination, he was honoured at a public function, in this ceremony, one of his teachers Krishna Ji Arjun Keluskar presented him a biography of his book Gautam Buddha.

After reading the biography of Gautam Buddha, Bhimrao Ambedkar began to be inclined towards Buddhist education.

Political Journey of Bhimrao Ambedkar :

On 31 January 1920 Ambedkar ji started a weekly newspaper "Mooknayak". In 1924, Babasaheb founded the Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha to give the Dalits an equal place with other sections in the society. In 1932, there was a treaty between Gandhiji and Ambedkar, which is known as Poona Pact.

In August 1936, the Independent Labor Party was founded by Bhimrao Ambedkar. In 1937, Dr. Ambedkar passed a bill to abolish tenancy in the Konkan region. Bhimrao Ambedkar actively participated in the Congress Party and the independence movement.

In view of his leadership and his knowledge, when the Constituent Assembly was formed, Bhimrao Ambedkar was made the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly and Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected the President of the Constituent Assembly.

On February 1948, Ambedkar presented the draft of the constitution and it was implemented on 26 January 1949. When Ambedkarji became the law minister when the government was formed in India. In 1951, Dr. Ambedkar resigned from the post of law minister.

Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar ji wrote many books during his lifetime to make people aware of his philosophy and experience, which is still guiding Indian society and all of us Indians.

Among these books, the major books are –

  4. Who were the Shudras?

This book written by Bhimrao Ambedkar is still available in libraries and on digital platforms, if you wish, you can read those books even today.

Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar presented untouchability, illiteracy, superstition as well as social political and economic inequality as the biggest evil.

Death of Ambedkar :

Dr. Ambedkar ji, while struggling in Indian society against caste system and social discrimination, left his religion disappointed and accepted Buddhism in 1956 with millions of supporters.

In the same year, on December 6, 1956, at the age of 63, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, who drafted the Constitution of India, died.
